Update on Burien Transit Options

Update on Burien Transit Options

Dear Neighbor,

IMG_0525.jpgAs you recall, we made some significant cuts to Metro bus service last September. Eliminating the route 139 in Burien was included in those cuts.

In my role as the Council’s budget lead on transit issues, I successfully increased funding for alternative transit services to help communities like Burien that were facing localized bus cuts. Last night I met with Burien residents from the Gregory Heights and Seahurst neighborhoods to discuss options for new transit service made possible by this funding.

We had a great discussion and covered issues like ideal route paths, service hours and van size. Residents offered a variety of comments such as the fact that afternoon school dismissal times may disrupt service and that weekend service should also be considered as funding allows. Please take a moment to complete this online survey if you would like a chance to add your comments to the mix.

I will work with Metro and Burien during the next few weeks to come up with a final plan that l will present during the February 23 Burien City Council meeting. Service will begin in June and I will keep you updated as details are worked out.

This year will continue to bring challenges for the County including public health funding, bus service and comprehensive land use policies. I always appreciate hearing from you and hope you will take a moment to contact me with questions or concerns.

Take care, and Go Hawks!

Do you have a plan to save your smile?

October 20, 2014

Do you have a plan to save your smile?

Save your smile with an ASA dental plan.

Did you know that those over the age of 65 are seven times more likely to be diagnosed with oral cancer than those under 65?

Dental coverage is too important to lose, especially for those over or nearing age 65. If you are 65, soon to turn 65, or have loved ones who are 65 and older, consider this: it is far less expensive to invest in preventive dental care now than in invasive emergency procedures down the road. (less painful, too!)

Routine dental examinations can:

  • Detect oral cancer before it becomes life-threatening
  • Treat cavities before they lead to infection and tooth loss
  • Fight gum disease and other chronic inflammatory conditions

Your ASA membership includes access to a large portfolio of insurance benefits, including quality dental plans starting at only $29.96 per month.

Applying for coverage is fast and easy, and you can cancel at any time!

Benefits include:

* Free cleanings every 6 months

* No-deductible preventive care

* Immediate coverage of major services* (most plans have waiting periods!)

* Quick claims turnaround

You even get a prescription savings discount card to help you save on hundreds of generic drugs (just $4!), and save about 10-15% on most name-brand drugs.
