September Newsletter

Greetings!

As the excitement of Fall and football season starts to sink in, don’t lose sight of your health. Annual enrollment for Medicare begins on October 15th, so don’t miss out. This is the one time during the year to reevaluate your options and make any necessary changes to your policies. And by being a member of ASA, you get a free consultation with our professional team of Medicare specialists. Click Here or call 1-877-473-6031 today for your free review and discover which plan is best for you.

Speaking of free…check out ASA’s Benefits and Discounts page to learn more about any of our free or discounted services. As an ASA member you are eligible to receive a FREE discount prescription drug card that can be used at participating pharmacies nationwide, as well as receive a FREE hearing screening from ASA Hearing Benefits. ASA Premier Discounts offers dental and vision discounts, pet care, travel assistance, eldercare assistance, podiatry care, funeral planning, and much more to ASA members. Finally, ASA members can receive discounts on car or truck rentals offered through Hertz and Penske. If you have any questions regarding any of these free or discounted services, call 1-800-951-0017 and a representative will be able to assist you.

On the political front, ASA is disappointed with the reappointment of Ben Bernanke as head of the Federal Reserve banking system because of his decision to benefit others at the expense of our nation’s senior citizens. The system’s controversial economic policies have placed an especially unreasonable burden on seniors, and it is Mr. Bernanke’s effort to keep it this way.

Many ASA members are retired and somewhat dependent upon generating a fixed return from their life savings. In a recent letter I received, ASA member Brenton Smith of Georgia emphasizes that fixed income is often a retiree’s only source of income. He documents that this single paycheck has been cut by more than 90 percent by the Federal Reserve, which has forced interest rates down to help stabilize the global financial system. As liquid assets have dropped, an 85-year-old retiree who saved, say $30,000, from hard work has watched his paycheck downsize from $1,500 to $21. This is outrageous! The AARP is silent on this issue. ASA is not! Let’s hope and fight that this disturbing situation, and the policies that foster it, can be turned around with the 2012 congressional and presidential elections.

BREAKING NEWS- I’ll be representing you in Washington, D.C. on October 12 at two big events. I’ve been invited to speak at the well-known "Weyrich Luncheon" of top Washington conservative activists so they can learn more about ASA and our phenomenal growth in 2010. I’ll also be attending a salute to legendary entertainer Pat Boone hosted by Congressmen Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., and Brett Guthrie, R-K.Y., at a Capitol Hill Club event sponsored by our friends at the 60 Plus Association. Pat Boone has been a fighter on behalf of senior concerns- and particularly in speaking out against the expensive and tyrannical Obamacare law. ASA is proud to join the 60 Plus Association in honoring this fine patriot.

As always, thanks for your continued support. Happy Fall!

Sincerely,

Phil Kent

Chief Executive Officer

The Call No One Wants to Make…or Receive
78.jpg

"Hello, Tom? It’s Dad. Really glad you picked up the phone. I need to talk with you for a few minutes, son – it’s important. Listen, something really strange is happening … I think it’s bad." <pause> "No … no, not at all, Tommy; your mom’s just fine. Say, here’s why I called: I just brought in a fistful of letters from the mailbox. There are two from companies we wrote out checks to a week or so ago; nasty notes saying they’re being returned because of insufficient funds. Here’s another from a credit card company – a statement with my name on it and $2,500 worth of charges; son, we’ve never done any business with this outfit! I just tried logging into our banking accounts to check some of this out before I called you. Says my password’s no good anymore – so I can’t look at any of our accounts or money market statements. I’m locked out and there’s a message on the screen saying I need to call them right away. What do you think’s happened, Tom? Gotta admit, all this is pretty upsetting …"

Ever think it was possible you’d have an experience like this? Can you imagine what it would feel like if you did? This scenario – or something similar – plays out thousands of times every single day: this man has become a victim of identity theft. So, now – his son is probably faced with admitting, "Dad, I have no idea what to do – or where to start. Maybe call the police? Your bank? This mysterious credit card company?"

Over the last 5 years, over 47 million people have had their identities stolen; good names and reputations ruined … entire life savings & investments – wiped out without a trace; retirement plans and college funds cleaned-out by unscrupulous thieves with a bit of key information they’ll use over & over again. Then, there’s the aspect of identity theft that blurs the line between legal and illegal, pushing a victim over the brink: when an identity thief commits crimes using their name! It may shock you to know that identity theft is a crime on which the burden of proof falls entirely on its victims when things like this occur.

The biggest unanswered question in all of this? Have you taken the best measures available to protect yourself against what could be a seemingly unending nightmare – in a time when stealing identities has become almost common? We attempt to control other liabilities with any number of insurance plans & policies these days: health, auto, homeowner’s, nursing home and the like – because, no one wants to be unprotected against devastating loss if their property is damaged or someone becomes ill or infirmed. A breed of criminal who has the ability to access someone’s personal information they might use dozens of times has the ability to do devastating damage very quickly. Second Generation identity protection against this horrendous crime should be sought with a company who actually pursues the criminals, assists in their apprehension, reimburses costs of being victimized and has a team of former federal law-enforcement agents ready at a moment’s notice to do what they possess thousands of years of combined experience in doing.

Don’t become ‘Tom’ or ‘Dad.’ Visit iSekurityforASA.com right now!
